THE OUTDOOR MODULE

Immerse in nature

Many of us do not get the time outdoors that we should or need for maximum health.

Let's fix that.

IMMERSE IN NATURE.

The Outdoor module offers two pathways to better wellness: 1) light/medium outdoor activities of walking, hiking, light stretching, and Yoga with walking and seated meditations in and around nature for an immensely energizing and calming experience. Known in Japanese as Shinrin-yoku -- ‘Forest Bathing’ -- this has been an official practice with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture since 1982; and 2) Outdoor skills classes including fire-making, safe knife/ax/tomahawk work, wood processing, and basic Outdoor survival skills. During Matt's outdoor skills classes, he uses his personally designed and copyrighted MSB ('Michaelson Survival Bowie') to demonstrate skills and techniques. This tough and dependable outdoor tool was field tested in North Carolina and Tennessee for months before moving to final design, and is now being manufactured in custom orders by Battle Horse Knives (BHK) in Cambridge, Ohio. For more information on or to order an MSB, please contact Matt!  Outdoor skills sessions can 60, 90, or 120 minutes in duration and require a signed waiver before participation.

TESTIMONIALS

I attended most of Matt’s classes at the Arlington-Fairfax Chapter of IWLA and I always learned something. every class. Matt Michaelson is a true expert on knives and axes. And like some experts he can make a complex subject easy to understand. I consider myself something of an expert in knife sharpening and always learned quite a bit at every session. He is also an excellent instructor, working with both juniors and adults, he teaches the important safety points and then emphasizes them is such a way that neither adults nor juniors feel bad.

The Outdoor skills clinic in knife, tomahawk, and ax handling was both informative and enjoyable. I have carried and regularly utilized knives since childhood but still managed to learn some new techniques at the clinic. One surprise was even a side lesson in fire making! Matt’s delivery and teaching method ensured that every participant came away with added knowledge and experience. Most importantly, the Outdoor skills clinic was A LOT of fun.
